“Light Dancing In The Dark” is a late intermediate to early advanced piece that peeks into a fantasy, starlit world.  This piece is perfect for students who love whimsical music, like this piece inspired by the music from “Le fabuleux destin d’Amélie Poulain”.

Light Dancing In The Dark Level:

“Light Dancing In The Dark” is a late intermediate to early advanced piano solo that takes students on an emotional journey.  The inspiration for this piece was from the “May The Fourth Be With You” holiday.

Part of the inspiration is pure music theory with chords moving by 4ths (if they had stayed in a root position).  The other side was inspired by the love story from the movie franchise that inspired the holiday.

  • Mode: B Minor
  • Time Signature: 2/4
  • Concepts: keyboard geography (includes jumps with parallel intervals), parallel octaves (big part of accompaniment pattern, includes 8th and 16th rhythms), parallel 3rd and 6th intervals, 4 ledger lines, triplets

Several sections have parallel 6th intervals, including a few that begin with a 5th interval. Exploration of 7th chords and their unique textures is included. Your students are encouraged to experiment with voicing to determine whether they prefer the chords or accompaniment pattern to become the melody.

Light Dancing In The Dark Bonus:

All sheet music comes with original cover art.  “Light Dancing In The Dark” comes with “make it your own” suggestions for students to experiment with developing their own voice.

Students love a bit of cover art.  It can help them get into the mood and story of a piece.  I’ve included ways to adapt or play with the music so students become part of the creative process.
