“Snow Fairies Under The Moonlight” is a relaxing early advanced piece.  The snow fairies are back relaxing as they look upon the vast sky.  While the individual components are simple, put together they create something that sounds multi-layered.

This piece is an exploration of pedalling, cross-rhythms and multiple voices while keeping the overall sound as simple and relaxed as possible.

Snow Fairies Under The Moonlight Level:

“Snow Fairies Under The Moonlight” is an early advanced piano solo.  This song has several elements for exploration.  Your students will explore damper, sostenuto and finger pedalling to create the mood.  They can look at the music theory behind the 7th and 9th chords throughout the song.  And, how to make cross-rhythms that include multiple voicings in each hand and parallel intervals sound and feel effortless.

  • Mode: D minor
  • Time Signature: 4/4
  • Concepts: pedalling (damper, sostenuto and finger pedalling), 4+ ledger lines, cross rhythms, triplets, 7th and 9th chords, jumping more than an octave, parallel 6ths, multiple voices (each hand)

The dynamics of each voice will play a big part in the interpretation of this piece.  Students are encouraged to experiment with the range of each dynamic for each voice to create individual phrases that stand out.

Snow Fairies Under The Moonlight Bonus:

All sheet music comes with original cover art.  “Snow Fairies Under The Moonlight” comes with “make it your own” suggestions for students to experiment with developing their own voice.
