“Winter At The Cabin” is a playful, late intermediate piece that focuses on the nostalgia of family time at the cabin.  Playing in the snow, drinking hot chocolate, hiking in the snow, and puzzle time all blend to make lifelong memories.  This piece is designed for your student to insert their own wonderful memories as inspiration as they learn the piece.

“Winter At The Cabin” is a late intermediate piano solo that is perfect for teen to adult students.  While this piece is in 6/8 time one of the left-hand accompaniment patterns follow a 4-2 rhythm segmentation while the right-hand follows more typical rhythms for this time signature.  This creates a light-hearted, slightly syncopated feel to the section.  The left hand switches clefs mid-song to create a whimsical mood.

• Time Signature: 6/8
• Concepts: Independent rhythms in each hand, option to swing eighth notes, clef change mid-song, some 4-note chords in one hand, 3+ ledger lines

Your students are encouraged to try playing this piece as written and swinging the eighth notes.  This changes the mood slightly, but also can create a fun rhythmical challenge partway through the song.
