May I Have This Dance? Level:
“May I Have This Dance?” is an early elementary (rote) through elementary (reading) piano solo. Your students can choose either the chord bridges or single-line phrases as the main melody, creating a unique playing experience!
- Mode: G Major (no accidentals needed)
- Time Signature: 4/4
- Concepts: both hands playing same clef, switching clef mid-song (moving up one octave), hand over hand arpeggio, 8va, ritardando, melody switching hands (optional)
Barred eighth notes (the smallest note) are not played at the same time as the harmony to decrease the difficulty.
Ledger D is part of simple patterns and is written as an alpha note. Intervallic reading makes this easier for your students.
A hand-over-hand arpeggio with 8va ends the piece. A bracket [ ] shows which notes are played with the left hand. The last note is marked as the right hand. Teaching this section by rote makes it especially easy for your students to hear the pattern before seeing it on the page.
May I Have This Dance? Bonus:
All sheet music comes with original cover art. “May I Have This Dance?” comes with “make it your own” suggestions for students to experiment with developing their own voice.
